Descriptions of the classes Free Spirit Yoga offers:
Yoga 101 – New Beginner
If you have never practiced yoga before come and learn in a safe,
fun, and empowering class. Whether you are 18 or 80, yoga can help
you build a strong body and a clear mind, and a calm way to approach
life's daily dilemmas. This class provides students with a thorough
introduction to basic yoga postures, a taste of yoga philosophy, and
the 5 alignment principles of Anusara Yoga.
Level I - Beginner
This class focuses on standing poses, basic hip openers, and backbends
to strengthen and stretch the legs, back, and shoulders. Beginner
incorporates 10 minutes of seated meditation at the end with guidance.
Level II – Intermediate
In addition to refining the standing poses and seated poses,
this class focuses on strengthening and opening the arms and
shoulders for inversions (including handstand, headstand,
forearm balance and shoulder stand), basic arm balances and
backbends (including wheel pose). It is recommended that
students be familiar with the Anusara principles of alignment.
Level II – Free Style Flow - Intermediate Flow
A flowing class that emphasizes alignment and affirm’s ones highest potential.
This is a vigorous Vinyasa-style yoga class, in which breath and movement are
connected as a student flows through the poses. It incorporates Anusara alignment
while keeping the tempo of the class challenging. Less time is devoted to demonstration
and instruction of the poses, so Intermediate Flow students should be comfortable
practicing at the Intermediate level or above.
Level III – Advanced
This class introduces more challenging standing poses, backbends
and seated poses and includes the regular practice of arm balances
and inversions. Advanced students should be able to kick up unassisted
to handstand at the wall and push up unassisted into wheel pose.
A regular yoga practice outside of class is strongly encouraged.
Healing Yoga and Meditation
Healing Yoga is a modern day version of an ancient healing practice
incorporating the use of ki-energy to facilitate the awareness of body,
mind and breath. This program is designed to involve people of all ages
and physical abilities. The series includes simple postures and stretching,
breathing techniques, brain balancing exercises, body tapping, visualization
and meditation. These techniques are designed to release emotions, open
blockages and encourage the free flow of energy in the body. Through
awareness, mindfulness and opening of the heart and chakras, energy can
circulate, body becomes balanced and healing can be achieved.
Teen Yoga
This is a funky yoga class for teens. Feel strong, empowered and
energized through the dynamic combination of yoga postures. This class
is designed to sculpt your body and make you feel terrific. Develop greater
poise, grace and confidence, as well as a more accepting relationship to your
body and a positive image of who you are in the world.
Teen yoga also teaches you how to de-stress and relax.
