These unique programs are suitable for children from ages 5-12 years.

The children’s program was created in 2001 and is a very popular class at Free Spirit Yoga. It was inspired by Annette’s passion for teaching children.

A Little History

The ancient yogis lived and meditated in very close harmony with nature. The yogis carefully observed animals, birds, insects and other forms of life, noting their postures, diets and natural survival instincts.

Using their observations the early yogis developed a system of postures, breathing practices and philosophies. The benefit was the achievement of enlightenment, a state of oneness with the universe.

They believed that enlightenment results in strength, inner peace, and understanding of themselves and the world around them.

In our children’s class we mimic nature, and take on the characteristics of the postures. We feel the energy, strength and the spirit of these animals, birds, insects and nature. At the end of class we conclude with relaxation and a guided meditation where the children are encouraged to share their experiences and express their feelings.
