Projects and Community

Spirit Yogathon
Takes place annually on the weekend of the summer solstice in June. The Spirit Yogathon emerged in 2006 from the Free Spirit Yoga Teen class after learning about the different paths of yoga. The teens learned about taking yoga off of the mat and into the real world. Everyone participating will have the opportunity to practice a combination of “hatha yoga” (physical aspect), “karma yoga” (selfless service) and “bhakti yoga” (yoga of devotion). All proceeds raised benefit the World Food Program.

Yoga in the Peel School Board
Free Spirit Yoga Studio is a mobile yoga studio that will come to your school gym or classroom. We have taught classes at high schools for physical education classes, world religion classes, special events (fundraiser events put on by schools), and after-school teacher programs. Call or e-mail Annette to talk about how to infuse yoga into your classroom and school, and for pricing details.

Earth Hour
Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a very powerful message about the need for action on global warming.

Vision Boards
A vision board is typically a poster board on which you paste or collage images that you’ve torn out from various magazines or have drawn yourself. It’s simple. The idea behind this is that when you surround yourself with images of who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to vacation, your life changes to match those images and those desires. A vision board adds clarity to your desires, and feeling to your visions. Taking the time to plan or make a vision board makes it indelible in the mind. Have a little ritual before you begin your vision board. Sit quietly and set the intent. With lots of kindness and openness, ask your self what it is you want. Maybe one word will be the answer. Maybe images will come into your head. Just take a moment to be with that. This process makes it a deeper experience. It gives a chance for your ego to step aside just a little, so that you can more clearly create your vision.

Chanting
Why do you practice yoga? Because it makes you feel good. More than just the physical practice, others forms of yoga can support and enhance your connection with your innate sense of freedom and joy. Chanting is one of them. Have you noticed how special the energy is when you hear live music? What if that music was designed to help you connect with the Divine? This practice enhances the memory of who you really are as the outer layers get stripped away, leaving you with the simple, uncluttered knowledge that your nature is freedom, joy and already complete.
